iaxwebphone vs iax softphone quality
« on: May 08, 2006, 02:50:56 AM »
i\'ve noticed that voice quality is really degraded when using the iaxwebphone activex.  and when using the same settings on an iax softphone(like IDEFISK), voice quality is clear.

any thoughts?

Hmm... I\'ve no answer - but I can\'t hear any difference between them. I was really suprised about the quality of iaxclientocx. *shrug*

iaxwebphone vs iax softphone quality
hi,

Basically core IAX2 is same for all the others softphones and my webphone, iaxclient ocx is now approx 3 years old and i m very much happy with its performance...

Infact it is compiled more natively on windows as compare to others available versions of softphones and this ocx is best around all other versions performance wise, but i also want to mention that it have two versions one with iaxclient\'s jitter buffer disabled (current available) and one with iaxclient jitter buffer enabled.

So please check your asterisk settings, no jitter buffer etc, if you want with iaxclient\'s jitter buffer enabled i can send you that version too.
(but my cab signing certificate is now expired, i will renew my license when i have some money  )

Also please explain more about your problem in detail and also please mention your name on the forum.

Thanks and Regards,
Babar Shafiq Nazmi

Hi babar...

First, I\'d like to say your iax web client is very good, I\'ve got no complaints.

My asterisk server config is default config.  No jitter buffer.

When I use the web client it works fine when ping time RTT is < 30ms.
But when people with RTT > 60ms, thats when voice gets real bad.  I then tell them to switch to IDEFISK right after and voice is crystal clear.  I\'ve tested it with them several times just to see if it was consistent, and it all was.  Also, both people that tested this had cable modem.

I know that you use the same iax library as the other softphones, so i know there shouldn\'t be a difference in performance.  I thought I\'d mention it and see if other people has had similar experiences.

Regards

iaxwebphone vs iax softphone quality

Hi,

It must be some jitter settings issue, by the way IDEFISK is using jitter buffer enabled by default. so it might be jitter buffer problem.
Thats why i mentioned in my previous post that i m using two versions for activeX control and i was planning to release two downloads when some new version is released (with and without jitter.)

Thanks for posting your experience and comments..

Babar Shafiq Nazmi.

I am experienceing poor (broken) voice quality with the most recent ocx. When I make a call with IAXwebTelephone to my Asterisk server (as a test I have the server speak date and time) the first few sceonds are ok. Then the audio begins to break up. If I close the browser and immediately run IDEfisk, the audio quality is great. This test was run on my local LAN with only 2 PCs on the network. When I perform the same test w/ SIP softphones and dedicated SIP phones the audio is good.

I have recordings that compare IAXweb client and IDEFisk that I can forward to you for review.

I would really like to use this as part of my telephony system, but right now it\'s not useable...

Any ideas why the OCX is breaking up?

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!

Hi,

Please post version number, as the recent version is with jitter buffer enabled. Download the latest version on the forum, it is due to latest version of Asterisk jitter buffer support.
